So I won the Gauntlet on Sun . I would post thoughts, but then I would loose whatever minuscule edge that I imagine myself possessing. Finishing the season strong would make me very happy, given I have like no poker confidence anymore.

I've 9 tabled PS 25NL 6max twice in the last couple weeks. Played 1k hands in each session (which is a kinda cool feeling). The first time I dropped 4 buy-ins, but there was some standard variance crap. I pushed some of my good hands too hard and called a little too much, but take the big variance hands out and I approx break-even. I tried a second time and finished up 1 buy-in . I still don't feel I played that well, but I'm happy with 5BB/100.

So what is this teaching me?
1) to tighten up. I loosened up in Jan, with marginal effect, then I started to drop $$ and it made me sad
2) ??? I'm a POS and need to review my histories to see where I was spewing money. My theory is that since I'm playing on a robotic level my natural tendencies will become very prominent. I should be able to find leaks and fix

I played some 50NL today cuz I got off work early. I was definitely playing tighter than my standard the past couple months. I had better results over a stupid small sample, with few, tough decisions.

My biggest beef with the games right now is that tables are so liquid. If I find a good table it's usually broken up within 1/2 hour cuz the table fish goes busto. Constantly having to find new tables is annoying and minimizes my desire to play hands.

 Again a multi-parter:
1) switching sites
2) 8-tabling 25nl 6max

First off, I haven't played any poker for 2 weeks. I'm sick of not winning money, and I started playing Warcraft III which was/is enjoyable.

Switching Sites:
So I realized I had money on a sportsbook still. It was $50 more than I expected so I was excited, until I tried to withdraw and realized it was a bonus. So I thought about trying to clear it by betting on bball, then remembered they have a poker room. I love playing poker with sportsbettors. I won 2 buy-ins at 20NL in 1 hour (2 tabling), then 1 buy-in at 50NL in an hour (1 tabling). This put me in a good mood.

8-tabling:
I am no longer successful at 50NL. I dropped a buy-in today over 300 hands. So I went to 25NL with a new plan. Work on 8-tabling. I opened up the best 8 tables I saw and went to town. I lost 4 buy-ins over 900 hands (hour and a half).

3 buy-ins:
QQ vs AA: he was a donkey, but smooth called my 3bet pre-flop and slowplayed on a rag flop
set under set
TPTK+flush draw vs turned gut-shot straight

I know I missed value and paid off too much. I also cbet too much. I also had almost nothing paid off, QQ AA AK AQ were big loosers.

I'm going to go over the hands/stats (tomorrow and see what's up.

I think this will help:
1) with 3-4 tabling because things will be more automatic, and hopefully it will slow the game down
2) I'll know what it's like to be a multi-tabler so I can relate to what they're thinking
3) make money and rebuild confidence ?? ??

So it's been over a months since I've updated. I'm not really into this blogging thing, I like posting (obviously) and having discussions/debates with other people, I don't like standing on a soap box and talking about something that I'm not that confident in. I'm not good at expressing myself, partially because I'm not great at writing my thoughts, and partially because I don't see why you (the reader) would care. Also, I was hoping to document my transition from 50NL to 100NL, but I won't be at 100NL anytime soon so that motivation is gone. But when a cute girl tells me I need to make an update I am too weak to say no.

This is going to be long so I'll break it up. Summary, I spent the last two weeks of Dec getting drunk with friends from out of town. Jan comes and I need cash, except I don't run good, although I learned something during this time. So I get a job which cuts into playing time. Alright lets get started.

Poker in December:
I started with this grand plan. I was going to make enough playing poker that I don't have to get a part-time job before I get a real job. Part of this plan was to move to 100NL. So what happens, I run really well at 50NL, 9.8BB/100

So I take a shot at 100NL and run/do bad, -8.9BB/100

For an overall profit of +$600, not bad, but I didn't play at all for the last 2 weeks because of Christmas. Has I played and made another $600 (reasonable I think) I would be in a lot better shape today. I stopped updating because I stopped playing.

Poker in January:
So now it's the beginning of January, ready to get back into this poker thing. Except I'm not running well, part of the not running well is getting zero action on my good hands. I try loosening up, but it doesn't help. I find it's hard to motivate myself ..

I'm sure you've been anxiously awaiting an update, and honestly I can't blame you.

First off the guts. What did I learn this week.
1) Betting MP for value in a 4 way limped pot is not necessarily valuable
2) After sitting down at a new table, one that was chosen with high $/hand and % to flop (especially on the weekends), random thoughtless aggression is not +eV
3) The following line with AJ (say) is not +eV, cbet (missed flop), check, call 1/2 PSB

Now, you may laugh, but let me explain (the last one at least). You're multi-tabling, playing some hands. After awhile you realize firing 2 barrels on 75% of the flops isn't +eV. Obvious solution, start checking the turn and picking off river bluffs. Both are good ideas, but are opponent specific (as a default line). When you're new to a table, calling the river bluff is not a good idea, bet the turn, or fold the river. Balance is key and I'm still learning how to apply the theoretical knowledge I have, and adapt to the different playing styles of others.

I'm not posting daily $$ updates, because it's short-sighted. It came with the same info about how many hands I have played a day, so I posted it. But does anyone care about how many hands I play or how much I made? No. I still have to do it to keep myself in check.

I'm too lazy to break it down by day, but I basically fucked up again this week.
50NL - 2.8k hands
100NL - 2k hands

I was only 2 tabling 100NL so it should be a little low, but I am still 4k hand short of my weekly goal. It's going to be a very lonely Xmas if I don't get my shit together . 50NL I was up $100 after 40 hands, then basically broke even over the next 2k, meh. The 100NL was over the weekend and I would be up good but I got bad-beated right at the end, also $100. I'm disappointed because people were tossing chips all over the place at 100NL over the weekend. I either:
a) needed to make more time to play (true)
b) needed better cards (true, should happen wit ..

So I woke up yesterday feeling kind of shitty. So I went to the store today and bought day/nightime sinus medicine. Nighttime meds + poker = badz. I can't focus for shit so it's another short day (last night cuz I felt shitty and went to bed early).

Dec 11th
100NL - 450 hands, +193, hmmm $45/hr, so all I need to do is 2-table 1 hour a day to get by (or woot for running good, quads and AA vs KK)
50NL - 150 hands, +$80

Dec 12th
100NL - 370 hands, +$26
50NL - 500 hands, +$60

100NL is definitely different than 50NL, not sure that it's much harder yet (I don't think it is). 50NL is much more passive, much less aggressive pre-flop, much less turn and river bluff bets. Although I was the hot bluff catcher at 100NL today

PS BR: $1268

OK, I've kind of been slacking. My goal was ~2k hands a day for 10k a week. If I maintain this I'll be PlatinumStar for January. I'm hoping for 5BB/100 min as that'll pay the bills.

Dec 7th, 450 hands, +$255
Last day of exams, I went out with my buddies who are still in school. And to watch some football game involving some not very good team.

Dec 8th, 740 hands, +$37, still 5BB/100 (my goal)

Dec 9th, 1.3k hands, +$10, I went down a buy-in, up a buy-in, down a buy-in, up a buy-in, even, I probably pissed away about a buy-in, I'm not ready for 4 tables of 6max (which is going to make it pretty hard to actually get 2k a day, I think 1.8k max)

Dec 10th, 650 hands, +136 again
QQ > AA pf against $20 shorty, rest was small stack pwnage and a fullstack AA > KK

I also won $50 after mid-night, but that'll have to count for next week

So, recap Dec 4th-Dec 10th, 5k hands, +$534 @ 10BB/100. Yah for results, but ewww on the # of hands.

PS BR: $986

I'm ready to take a serious shot at 100NL tomorrow (My goal was $1k in PS but, eh close enough). I'll probably play fairly tight at first, cuz I will have to get used to the bigger swings. I'll set my drop down point at $800, but I suspect I'll move back down at $900. I'm a BR nit, but a bit of a heater could expedite my progress.

Well, my plan was to play at FullTilt and clear the $600 bonus. Problem, I can't make money there. So, I'm taking the rest of December off FullTilt and playing at PokerStars.

FullTilt - 8k hands

PokerStars - 7k hands

That's -4BB/100 vs +5BB/100.

All my thin value bets were getting folds, or were beat by a better hand (turned 2 pair, etc). All my good hands were getting folds, and all my thin calls were wrong. I really feel the players are better at FullTilt. I played a kinda nitty break even 1k hands at PokerStars today. I'm getting my feet back under me.

Part of this aggression thing is starting to make sense. I'm happy when I make big raises (like 30%+ of my stack) with a flush or straight draw and people fold. It kinda make me feel better about all the times they fold when I have a set.
