I suck at commitment!

Haven't blogged in such a long time that the page disappeared from my history, whoops... sorry guys.

As I said in my last post, I was hoping to move up to $22s in February and play enough SnGs to get SilverStars status on PokerStars.

I moved up to the $22s almost immediately at the start of the month, plays only 28 $11s and profiting $124.

Then I hit a huge slump when I got to the $22s and dropped around $250, which I made back towards the end of the month and finished the month profiting $92 over a total of 94 $22 SnGs, making a total monthly profit of $216.

The bad news is that I missed SilverStar status by a LOOONG way, I was around 400 FPP away from it (40 SnGs). This was mainly due to what I call 'lack of commitment' or 'procrastination'... aka. I was too lazy to play so many SnGs in a month.

I'll try to get SilverStar status in March while getting my ROI up to a nice rate... or die. Definitely one of the two.

February Intentions

February is going to be one of my most heavy-duty poker months to date, you'll be glad to hear.

I want to attain SilverStar status on PokerStars this month, therefore I need to play 300 $10 SnGs this month (about 11 per day).

My bankroll as of right now is $1523, if I hit $1600 I may start dabbling in $20 SnGs, so that could cut down the amount of SnGs I need to play.

My profit targets for this month is anything over $1,000.

Also, as people have been asking about my 24 hour SnG challenge in the comment thread, I will remember to update you on it.. now.

I got to about 3 hours in and realised I was structuring my SnGs in an uncomfortable way that I was not use to, this was affecting results, so I cancelled and rethought the masterplan. I have yet to try again, maybe if I have a free weekend soon I'll give it a go.

January in Review

For the most part, I took January as a month off of poker, concentrating on other things in my life that needed doing.

Consequently, I only managed to play a total of 16 SnGs in the month, profiting a total of $49 on those at an ITM of 62% and a ROI of 27%, which isn't too bad considering how sparingly I played.

BUT, yesterday I played an $11 Double Shootout to the $750k Guaranteed on Stars (formerly the $500k Guaranteed). 64 entrants (8 tables of 8 ), and the top two finishers got tickets. And I won it!

Got very lucky to survive when 3 handed on the final table, sucked out to knock the poor guy out in 3rd at the FT to win my $215 seat:

Outcome: Hero wins t7020.

I sucky good at poker!

So, being the wuss I am, I unregistered from the $750k and took my T$215. This brings my bankroll to a total of $1513 (minus $50 that is stuck for all eternity in PartyPoker because I can't be doing with cashing that out).

And, being the wuss that I am, I still refuse to move up from $10 SnGs. Maybe when I hit $1600 will I move up to the $20s (quadtabling as always).

So in conclusion, while barely playing in January, I had a very good and profitable month, mostly thanks to my nice hit in the Double Shootout yesterday.

Sneak preview of my next big FTR post

Here's a paragraph from my next large post to go in the Begginer's forum on FTR, hopefully sometime tomorrow. The article deals with spotting an avoiding tilt, and how taking breaks from poker can maximise profits. STOP PRESS!

QUOTE:
How long is a break?

So taking a break to avoid tilt is all well and good, but how do you know when it’s time to go back and play poker again. Well, trust me when I say, you’ll know. And you will know, and I’ll tell you how you know.

I’ve told you already, that tilt is when you get pissed off at poker in general, and when you get pissed off is the time you want to be taking your break. You’ll know that you’re ready to go back and put your ‘A’ game back on when you have a positive craving to play poker. You’ll know when it’s time to go back to poker when you have this craving, and you are no longer annoyed by any part of poker anymore.

So, in conclusion, there is no set time as to how long a break should be. It could ranger anywhere from a couple of hours to a matter of many weeks. The important thing to remember is that however long it takes, DO NOT PLAY POKER AGAIN UNTIL YOU FEEL YOU CAN PLAY YOUR ‘A’ GAME..

I'm currently writing a long post to be posted here tomorrow or the day after, depending on when I finish it. It is a complete review of my first full year playing poker.
24 hours of straight poker = +EV?

Well I guess I'll find out today/tomorrow...

As part of my Christmas bonanza of poker, I have decided to participate in a 24 hour poker session, between the hours of midday 23rd December and midday 24th December (EST).

Am I crazy? Most definitely. Do I care? Nope.

I plan to quadtable $10 SnGs for the 24 hours, taking occasional 10 minute breaks to pee/poo (whichever vowel suits you best). As soon as I bust out of a SnG, I will load up another one.

So to make this successful and give me an incentive to to well, I need to set some goals. So based on some calculations, I have come up with these targets:

SnGs Played Target: 85
Profit Target: $187

The profit target takes into account possible downswings, but I could finish way below or way above that target. The main target which will be difficult to achieve is the SnGs played target, hopefully I can nail this.

As an update to my stats so far in SnGs, here's how I've been doing:

SnGs Played: 76
ITM %: 47
ROI %: 38
Total Buyins: $836
Total Winnings: $1152
Net Profit: +$316

So I'm doing very good so far, hopefully I can continue this is my 24 hour session. Updates on the session to follow.

SnG Tracker

...is very good!

People have been talking about it all the time on FTR, praising it. I decided not to look into it because I assumed it would cost an amount in the region of what PokerTracker costs. Wrong! I downloaded it a few days ago and realised that it is completely free.

You can also import your stats from PokerTracker directly into SnG Tracker, which is pretty awesome considering I'm putting all my SnGs into PokerTracker.

Then it generates cool graphs of your results, which are linked below.

You can download it at http://sng.pokercomment.com

OK, so here are my cumulative profit, ROI/ITM and finish % graphs for $10 SnGs after 56 of them (links are provided rather than actual pictures due to the picture sizes being too big to fit nicely into the FTR blog page setup). Do these look decent to you? Comments/suggestions/requests welcome as always in my comment thread ( http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=22974 ).
