Hi hi. Haven't played online poker for a while, I needed a break. I'll probably play tonight though. I emailed PP and got them to give me a deposit bonus, so I have some money on there for cash games. Then I'll probably donk off in some tournaments tonight. Yay poker ...

I played live this past week though. Played in a $100 FO at River Rock on Wednesday and came around 25th out of 165 (bad beat to bust me, obv ... but that's how I roll these days! ) On Friday night I played $200NL cash for five hours and it went HORRIBLY. Every single time I made a hand, I got called by someone chasing a flush draw and he hit it every single time. Every time. I won't go through the boring laundry list, but I lost a lot of huge pots that way. For the most part I slowed down and lost as little as possible once the flush hit (thank god for cheap show downs), but it still hurt. I never did get my stack above $250, and I ended up losing two buyins over the course of the night (which I'm thankful for because if a couple idiots didn't spew chips my way, I'd have been down a lot more than $400).

I'm curious about a hand and whether or not I should have checked the turn. I had sat at the table only around 45 min or so ago, and the villian in this hand had been pretty active. I knew he was a regular in the cardroom because I'm pretty sure I've played with him before, but I couldn't remember any more specific reads. At that point though, I knew that he wasn't afraid to play lots of hands and didn't often fold preflop. I didn't get the idea that he was terrible though, I thought he was pretty okay post flop.

So anyway, in this hand I was in the blinds and he was on the button. There were a couple limps preflop, and then he raised to $7 when the play went to him. I reraised to $20 (in hindsight I probably should have raised more) with 99 and he called.

The flop came K9x with two clubs (9 of clubs on the board). I forget how much I bet, but it was probably around $35. He called.

Right now I am in a very bad state of mind. I've been playing a lot of tournaments (like I said a post or two ago) and large field ones at that. Big problem there is that they're high variance, and I am running BAD right now ...

Ever since I bubbled the 3R final table, I've been running like shit. That's part of the game, and I'm fine with that. What I'm not fine with is the way I've been reacting to it lately. The last couple of days have been especially bad, to the point where I can't even stand losing a flip anymore (I justify my freaking out with saying that I'm doing it because I know for a fact that I've lost x amount of flips in a row, but that's really pretty unacceptable still).

Not sure what to do. Tournaments are clearly driving me insane and I shouldn't be playing them right now (if I can't handle losing 10 flips in a row, then I shouldn't play tournaments). I should play cash games then, but for some reason I can't get myself to do so. One reason is that the money isn't significant for me unless I play 100NL, but I definitely cannot be playing that right now. At least not on Stars, it's way too hard for me. So therefore I should be switching sites to play the game somewhere else, but I am still so reluctant to do so because I'm in love with the Stars interface. This is so retarded, I should just ban myself from Stars for a month and force myself to play on another interface. I just hate them all so much ...

Even if I do get myself to finally switch to cash on another site, maybe I should play more 50NL for a while.

Biggest reason I know my head is in the wrong place is that I am afraid to let my bankroll go lower than it is for some reason. My financial situation is okay now (I won't have to withdraw anything from my roll) and I got it to $5k, and now all of a sudden I'm like OKAY! It has to stay $5k or more forever! Can't play games that might possibly cause my roll to decrease ... because for some reason I'm overly attached to it right now ..

I usually keep what I think are accurate numbers on what my bankroll is in a little book, and then every so often I go to the actual online numbers in my bank account, neteller, poker sites, etc. and figure out if they match. Last time I went to see how closely they matched, what I had on paper was a lot higher than what I actually had online (and I was disappointed ). The other day I compared them and I was shocked to discover that I have almost $1k more than I actually thought I had on paper. Haha that's so awesome, it's like I got free money! I honestly have no clue how my numbers got that far off, it's kind of strange. I kept thinking that when I added up all my money again, I'd realize i made a mistake and realize I still only had a $4k bankroll. But somehow I'm at $5k ...

Anyway, this is just a short random update on what I'm doing. I stopped playing cash games and started playing tourneys again because I hoped to play in a $440 FO next Saturday at a casino in Langley. It's a ladies event that they hold every year, and the first prize should be around $36k. Unfortunately, it sold out really quickly apparently a month ago, haha. Oh well, next year hopefully.

So donkaments as practice, mostly deep stacked ones because the $440 would have been pretty deep. No big scores to mention. I did place 10/2358 in a recent $3R on Stars, I was really really disappointed. It was unfortunate I didn't make the final table because I lost two big hands that would have broken the bubble and made me chip leader or close (JJ<A8 and then my final hand, AA<A8s which would have tripled me up). Like I said, really disappointing ... I've never had a big win online before, and getting so close and being bad beat out of the final table twice really sucks. That's the way MTTs are though. Next time!

That's it for now. Just playing poker, tutoring, and trying to book painting work for now. It's really nice not going to school, I love not having a class schedule and homewo ..

Long time no update. Sorry in advance for the long post, lots for me to think about.

I pulled a Triptanes and dropped all my courses, so I'm not going to school right now. I will be managing a small business from now until September though, so at least I'll be doing something. I dunno why I dropped my classes ... I just can't stand school right now. I only need to take 8 courses to graduate, I'm like 90% done my degree. I hate school though. Wish I never went. So I'm on a break ...

I've only played a few thousand hands since last time I posted here, which is kinda disappointing. Granted I've had a lot of stuff going on and probably only a couple weeks to play those hands (despite not going to school), so maybe I should be glad I even got that much playing in. I think I played around 3k hands at 50NL and then I moved up to 100NL and I've played around 4k hands there.

Hmm so now I wanna consider why I moved up to 100NL. I moved up after only about 6.5k hands at 50NL, the only experience I have at 6 max since I moved to cash games. I wanted to give 100NL a shot for a few reasons. For one, I had made around 13 buyins by the time I'd played that many hands, and I figured that was a decent amount to justify dipping my feet at a higher stake. If I only had a $1k bankroll when I was playing 50NL, then I would have had to stay there until I'd gotten my roll up to at least $2k, but that's not the situation for me so I felt I didn't need to wait around any longer.

Hmm well the first point makes me sound like I'm impatient and not wanting to stay at 50NL just for the sake of not wanting to be there. I don't know if that's the case, I like to think it's not. While a point can be made that it's a good idea to play 30k hands at a certain level to "make sure" that you can beat the game and that it's not just good variance, I guess a big part of me thinks that if you can beat the game at a certain level, it's a waste of potential money to stay at lower stakes. Not to say ..

Hmm okay well i'm done exams finally, so I should update.

I didn't play much during exam period. I think I passed all my exams though!

I'm so busy right now. There's so little time before Christmas and I have soo much to do. I haven't bought any gifts yet. I'm doomed!

Most of all, I wish I had time to play poker.

I went to River Rock the other night and played 1/2 cash. I made $550 in three hours. I was happy.

This update sucks, maybe I won't post it. I just got back from a concert and I'm really really deaf right now. I'm also really tired ...

Hmm. On Saturday I'm playing a live $270 FO. I'm really excited about this because I really like live poker, especially tournaments. Someone called me about it and asked me if I wanted to be staked for it, and at first I wasn't gonna take it and was just gonna buy-in myself. Eventually I decided that a half stake would be okay. So he'll get 25% of anything I win. I'll be praying to Lee (the god of all poker, obviously).

My next job is to try to find a stake for the ladies event that's taking place around here at the end of February. The buyin is $400-ish.

I also won a seat for the Sunday Million, but I doubt I'll play it. I think I'm supposed to be visiting a set of parents on that day (my parents are divorced so I have two families to see at Christmas).

Well that's it. MERRY CHRISTMAS! I love you all.

I like keeping the FTR blogs alive and kicking, so just writing a post to let you know what I'm up to (as if you care, right).

What am I doing? Not much. Shortly after I wrote my last post, I played a few 6 max sessions and lost a lot of money. I figured it was only fair though because I had run really nicely for the first few hundred hands I played and it had to even out sometime Still, who likes losing money ...

Haven't really played since then because of school. We had a big snow storm in Vancouver this past Sunday/Monday (first time it's snowed in November here for like 20 years! ) and I had a final lab exam postponed to this Friday. Since I wasn't ready for that exam at all (I was probably gonna fail it), I figured I should use the extra time I've been given and have since been studying like mad.

I did play some poker on Monday night after a day of studying. I considered playing cash but then I decided not to because I just wanted to play for fun for a bit and relax for a while. I decided to play just one MTT, so I played the $5k on AP; my theory was that I would bust after one to two hours and then I could go back to studying. It didn't work according to plan, I had some really nice hands hold up, I sucked out at the final table, and ended up placing third. Actually really disappointed in third 'cause the money sucks so much more than first and second, but if I don't think of it that way, an extra $600 is kinda nice

Next week I have more final exams, so I won't really be playing anything relevent until the week after. It sucks because all I really wanna do is have some free time to play poker. Ohh well.

Good luck to those with finals.
