Well, after my 100 BB loss on thursday night, I'd like to say I had a nice comeback friday and saturday nights.
Friday, I won almost 40 BB back just getting good cards and not making mistakes. Also played in a bunch of MTTs to take a break a little bit from LHE Ring. Friday, I played the LHE Deep Stack and LHE Shorthanded tournament, and, I don't think I've found any worse play out there in my life. I moneyed in the SH tournament just enough to recover the buyin for the deep stack. Also played in a satelite to the big one on Saturday night and lost AA to KJ and I go out 11th with top 5 getting seats. I was a little unnerved after that but oh well.
Saturday I hit and run the 30/60, played only 75 hands and won 20 BB; a stretch like that is enough for me to leave. Anyway, I played another satelite to the big one on saturday night, and just couldnt get anything going on. I have the BR to buyin to this thing but the play is pretty bad in the satelite and for only $39 I think its worth it. I played in midday and rebuy madness, then, while trying to do homework Fnord comes onto vent and convinces me to play in a LHE R+A tournament, LOL, it was awesome. Probably the first time I've ever been able to really build a stack and just bully people around. My favorite hand was raising 46o from MP to get raise by SB (I had already sucked out on him earlier) and the board is A46Q6, he busts with AQ. What can I say? It was fun and thats what the big stack is supposed to do. I was chip leader for the better part of the last two hours and Mike4066 was right there with me until he made a few mistakes and eventually gave up right before the final table. Won first place as I posted in the LHE forum so I had a couple good days after a real bad one.
Also, now I am the moderator for the High Stakes LHE forum, and I hope for some good discussion in there. And now, I'm back at school and have only 2 weeks of class then a week of finals until the end of the semester. Unfortunately, I have a lot of work to do and hopefully I can get some poker in.
I'm still getting punished. After not playing wednesday night because by the time I got home I was way too tired, I put in a 1200 hand session last night and got reamed.
My first 800 hands went pretty much breakeven buy my last 400 hands I dropped nearly 90 BB. I was spewing in between preflop and river but not seeing a showdown. My blind play was pretty decent last night although by the end there it got worse as I was trying to tighten up. I just couldn't do anything right, went from bad beats to bad play back to bad beats again and when you combine running bad and playing bad together, its a very nasty combination. Considering over the past week I've dropped 180 BB I might as well have bought a new car and would have had more to show for it. Anyway, one more night like last night and I'm going to be forced to go back down to 15/30 to get my confidence and BR back to normal.
I have been pretty busy lately, too busy to really post here. On sunday I left to my dad's place where its like going into the past w/ no internet. While there I have had a chance to catch up on some literature.
Before that, I went on a massive downswing Friday night, lost about 80 BB or so and taught me a lesson: Friday and Saturday nights require special attention. I was playing too many tables to play correctly and thus hurt me pretty bad. Saturday was a different story, however, as I was getting outdrawn and outkicked every other hand. My downswing hit a total of 130 BB before I went on a 50 BB upswing to take me back to where I was on Friday night. I haven't played since saturday and plan to hit it up tonight. Chances are I won't be able to play in the Super Wednesday, but I should be able to pick up at least a thousand hands a night the next 4 nights, which will be my goal.
A couple large days of playing break even poker. I need to work on my blind play but overall I still believe its a little variance. Running about .4 bb/100 the last 3500 hands or so the last two days.
On the 11th, I played a short session as i figured out why I lost a lot the night before and I was developing strategies on how to counteract it. It seems that the players at 30/60 are smarter than all the other limits (duh) and they are adjusting to the way I play. It was all too transparent as more and more players were taking pot shots at me by making -EV semibluffs by raising/three betting and even capping with marginal holdings.
TOO BAD I say, as all i need is a reason to call down. So the 11th I had a marginal day of about 15 bets because i wanted to change my strategy. On the 12th I was running bad to start out with, I was way too overaggressive when trying to take pots and found myself down 20 BB only to get in a fight with the g/f and finish up that session +2BB. Well, I stopped playing and came back later and won 15 BB only to get in another argument and lose 45 BB while trying to do two things at once (8 tabling and arguing = -EV). The WORST possible decision I could have made was not leave the tables, I was even thinking it at the times, but I just didn't do it. It will never happen again, I will close my tables first. So, on the 12th i dropped 25 BB on another small session only because it was too late and i was too tired to play to make it back.
And on the 13th I did a nice hit and run. 200 hands or so and just nailed everything and finished up 50 BB to finish off a marginal week on a positive note. Actually, its payback for me not playing very much, probably only 2k of 5k hands that I normally require, so my winnings reflect that. Expect more for the end of the month because from here until after thanksgiving break I have a lot of free time, that is if you dont count homework as part of your free time.
Well, 11/8 I was too exhausted after my exam to do anything, so I chilled and went to bed early because I wasnt feeling well.
On 11/9 I played the Super Wednesday on Party, I love this tournament so much because there is so much dead money in there. I finished 21/710 for a net of $500 or something, I dont remember. I do remember was that some idiot 'bluffed a sidepot' that indirectly cost me from finishing 20th, which would have netted me another $200.
Last night I took it on the chin, so to speak. I actually hit quads 4 times in less than 800 hands, only to be down abour 40 BB by the end of the 1200. I'm going through my DB to see if I can find where I went wrong.
Sorry for not posting lately, but I've been quite busy and havent played at all. I left friday for a fishing trip down at SIU, which UIUC kicked the pants off of. Anyway, I didn't get back until 8 pm yesterday and at that time its already a 14 hour day. I get some food and pass out for about 5 hours, wake up, do some homework and pass out again.
Tomorrow morning I have an accounting midterm, thus I'm not playing tonight either. I should be playing tomorrow night, however. Glad to be back.
Small session tonight, not that the last few havent been. I'm going away for the weekend on a fishing trip, then I have a midterm tuesday morning. So, tonight is my last playing day here in while. Time to go spend time with the GF.
Well, today is the start of my first blog, and I don't have much to say as I have yet to play. I guess when/if I do play tonight I will post my stats and any comments.
My goals for the year are to win 100k, I believe this is more than doable following my current track.
