We here at FTR try to support a nurturing environment. We build each other up through insighful advice and encouraging words. I deeply hope that your comment today at the table was out of frustration of being dealt a cooler-ish hand rather than a reflection of your true feelings. If it was instead more directed to the way I play, well then, I can't say I disagree with you. I'm always looking for feedback on the way I play so if you decide to create an account here I promise to post some hands for you.

If it's any consolation, I made a cashout out today and one of the things I purchased partially thanks to you was this after my brilliant girlfriend decided to take one of her non-waterproof ones into the shower with her the other day (I got it for her in red ).
I was sitting in path lab this morning when this girl taps me on the shoulder and excitedly asks, "you play on fulltilt?" I just stare at her with a wtf? look for a few seconds before I realize that I'm wearing a fulltilt fleece. So I tell her I do and she asks if I play holdem blah blah blah and then tells me that she and her husband play 1/2 and 2/4 LHE yada yada yada and I'm like cool. She then asks me what my screen name is. Well I know who this girl is and we've talked before but we're by no means friends or anything and there are other people sitting around us so I didn't really want to tell her that my screen name is "NutsInYourEye". I pause for a second trying to make up something but then realize that if I don't say something very soon it'll be apparent that I'm lying so I just tell her the first screen name that comes to mind.
I obviously tell her I'm "sbrugby". She then asks me what my avatar is and I tell her it's a dog. She asks if it is the white one and I tell her no, it's the brown and black one with the big head. She says that she is the girl with the devil horns. I tell her that was my old avatar and she laughs. She then tells me and her screen name is "golflover" or some shit like that and says that she'll look for me the next time she plays. I couldn't help but chuckle a little and started to say something else but I decided to leave it at that.
I don't know what I'm going to say to her the next time I see her.
I was finishing up a session because my tables were breaking anyways but had one guy that actually wanted to play HU which is somewhat rare at $1/2. He was horrible so I obliged. After I stacked him for the 3rd time he just started pushing AI PF every hand.
I haven't updated in awhile, but I'm not much of a blogger and I've been pretty busy with school. I wanted to share something I'm pretty proud of. It's not quite balla like a new ride or a ridiculous night of booze, coke and strippers but I'm not really the type that would be spending money on such things.
<a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img281.imageshack.us/img281/5990/tuitionxo8.png" border="0" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" /></a>
It wasn't exactly healthy for my BR to keep withdrawing, but I set my mind on paying for my tuition this semester and fortunately I was able to do it. I'm a BR baby and am not comfortable with playing with less than 50 buy-ins so I recently had to drop back to $1/2 for a little while because of it. I'm getting to the point where I can put my ego aside though so it wasn't much of a problem. This is just a hobby to me, but it's pretty cool I can pay for my education with it. My new goal is to pay for my entire med school tuition. My free time is quickly becoming less and less though so I don't how realistic a goal it is. Next semester I plan to max out my subsidized loans and pay the remainder directly. I should have done that this past semester and put the rest in a money market account or something since I don't have to pay interest on sub. loans until after I graduate. Live and learn though.
As for poker, I'm back to Primarily playing $2/4 again. I think my game has improved over the past few months and I'm more aware of my emotional/mental state when I play. I'm finally starting to realize that as edges become smaller, the thing that seperates the winners from the losers is discipline. Someone that consistently plays no better than their A-/B+ game is going to come out ahead of a comparably skilled player that plays their A+ game most of the time but then lapses and plays when angry/tired/drunk/tilted/etc. I still have my moments but they're becoming less and less frequent.
And finally a couple hands, including the best value bet ever....
Results below:
Hero has Qs Kh (one pair, queens).
Button has Qd Jh (one pair, queens).
Outcome: Hero wins $861.30.
I can't honestly say I put him exactly on a weaker Q. It was pretty obvious he was weak though. I thought he'd fold all 1 pair hands here and maybe even a weak two pair. Obviously I was wrong though, but luckily he decided to make the heroic call. It was lost when I converted the hand, but his friend was also talking to him as the hand was playing out and I think that probably influenced him some.
Preflop: Hero is MP1 with J, J. 2 folds, Hero raises to $153, 1 fold, CO raises to $1146.75, 3 folds, Hero calls $300 (All-In).
Flop: ($1605.75) 5, 9, Q(2 players, 1 all-in)
Turn: ($1605.75) 8(2 players, 1 all-in)
River: ($1605.75) 7(2 players, 1 all-in)
Final Pot: $1605.75
Results below:
Hero has Jd Jh (one pair, jacks).
CO has Ks Ad (high card, ace).
Outcome: Hero wins $912. CO wins $693.75.
Obviously a misclick on my part. I was using the number pad and meant to open for $15. Well the 3 is right beside the enter key and my fat fingers hit it right as I was making the bet. The guy instantly pushes when it's his turn to act. There was no wtf? pause or anything. I immediately thought of a hand that happened a couple weeks ago when Aba was playing Ivey HU on FullTilt when he misclick overbet PF with something like A6 and Ivey pushed with rags and aba made the call. Who the hell knew if this guy saw the hand or is otherwise observant enough to realize I fucked up. It's not like I'm Aba and the competition at $2/4 isn't exactly the caliber of Phil Ivey anyways, but nevertheless it was on my mind. This guy was one of the few people that you see on Stars $2/4 FR that actually had a decent stack so I gave him some credit for being at least semi-competent. I thought about it for a bit and decided that he is pushing hands that I'm ahead of enough of the time for a call to be +EV.
I've been playing full ring lately b/c I had to withdraw a lot of money to pay for tuition, plus it's a nice change of pace. It seems like a lot more interesting hands have come up at FR as oppossed to playing 6-max. Below is one of them. Good or Bad, correct or not, my thoughts follow.
I had been playing for almost an hour, but hadn't gotten anything going on this table. If I was practicing good table selection I should have left, but I have a complex where I think I'm better than everyone I sit down with regardless if I actually am or not.
Anyways... MP1 is a TAG, and seems pretty good at spotting weakness and exploiting it. It's obvious he is one of the few thinking players at this level. If anyone has been paying attention I've been playing fairly TAG and haven't yet shown down anything in a meaningful pot.
His limp from his position after another limper itself isn't unusual. My call with 7's is standard. What's wacky is his limp re-raise after all the other action behind him. I didn't see him limping a big PP, especially not from MP and after a limper. I really felt he was making a play trying to pick up all the dead money, as that wouldn't be all that suprising coming from him. I felt he might have a small-medium PP, but if he's indeed making a play his range is obviously much wider. I was going to call with position regardless if MP2 called or not, but the extra money in the pot made it more attractive after he did though.
The flop comes pretty dry. With my read, I had actually hoped to see more paint come, but the presence of few draws was good. Up until this point he had been consistent with following through on the flop when he had taken the lead PF, so his lead out didn't particularly scare me as I expected him to come out firing. If the same bet was made by a weaker player I'd fold with little thought. I should also add that he bet pretty quickly as if he had already made up his mind to do so. MP2 folds which is good for me. If he calls their I'm folding because I don't know how you can justify overcalling there.
So it's to me and I have 3 options. Fold: Folding is certainly a viable option, but it defeats my purpose of calling PF. I didn't hit my set, but I was barely getting the odds to do so in calling in the first place. I felt like he was making a play and his flop line is still consistent with that.
Raise: I didn't but him on a big hand, so raising could very well take down the pot. The problem is though that if he indeed has a monster I obviously have to fold if he then puts me AI.
Call: If he has a marginal hand like I suspect though, he probably won't fire again on the turn unless he happens to make his hand then. Given the flop texture, there is little chance of him making a hand if he didn't already have one. If I call and he bets big again on the turn I'm in the same position if he 3-bets a raise by me on the flop, but this way I get to see another card. A call by me also shows considerable strength. Given that I only originally just called a min-raise PF and then his re-raise he likely (and correctly) puts me on a marginal hand. Most people with marginal hands aren't going to call a large bet like this on the flop unless they improved considerably. In his eyes my line is most consistent with a small PP that hit a set.
I opted to just call and see how he reacted on the turn. I got the check I wanted from him and it opened up the door for me to try and take the pot. I thought there was a good chance I was ahead at this point, and even if I wasnt there are still hands in his range that may have me beat but still not strong enough to call a sizeable bet by me. Obviously I bet the turn and took it down. He folded pretty quickly making me think he didn't have a tough decision. After the hand he said "nice bet" and I asked him what he had, but he didn't respond.
In retrospect I probably could have bet a little less on the turn. If he doesn't have a hand or has a marginal one he's still going to be hard pressed to call even a bet that's a little smaller. It also saves me a little more if he pushed over me. A little bit smaller bet still basically commits me in his eyes and since I only started the hand with 100 BB he still wouldn't have any implied odds either.
I don't know how +EV this play was, if at all. That was my read though, and for what it's worth, I went with it.
Just finished my best month ever. Too bad Frist is fucking online poker. Time to study because it is looking more and more like I'm going to have to rely on my back-up plan.
P.S. Don't flip coins with me. I simply cannot lose right now.
Lee Jones is a pretty devious guy... I moved over to Party for the unmentionables, but put in a session on Stars to clear the Bonus they offered last week. I 12 tabled $2/4 fullring so I could knock it out quick and found the play to be absolutely atrocious. I tried moving on, but like a pedophile with candy, Lee it trying to lure me back. What a sneaky bastard. I'll probably stick around for a little while longer until I get the inevitable downswing (doomswitched) and once again tell Lee to fuck off and and go back to padding Dikshit's wallet instead.
It's nice to be playing on Party again. After playing a lot of $2/4 6-max on Stars, UB, FullTilt, and Party the last few months, I definately feel that overall Party has the weakest players. UB is not far behind, although they simply don't have as many tables running as the other sites. FullTilt and Stars are fairly comparable in the quailty of the players you'll encounter and are a distant third IMO, although the games on both sites are very beatable.
Below are my stats from Party since I started playing there again at the beginning of the month. I've done well over the short duration despite having a 7 buy-in downswing at one point.
<a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/8907/untitleduq7.png" border="0" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" /></a>
I've pretty much entirely quit playing on PokerStars. There are better games on other sites and the lack of Rakeback there is a huge turnoff. I've been mainly splitting my time between Party and UB and occasionally playing on FullTilt. I've been running good on UB, but I wish there was a better way to import their HH. I find it a pain in the ass to have Ultimate History running while I'm playing. The HH windows continually popping up drives me insane and after my first session of trying it I haven't used it again. Anyone know of an easier way to get UB hands into PT?
I'll probably spend the rest of this month and next month continuing to play $2/4 before moving up to $3/6. I want a BR of $30K before I make the move. I've been playing it occasionally and am pretty confident I can do well, but with the money so easy to make at $2/4 (knocks on wood) I don't feel rushed to play higher. Even in the few times I've played $3/6 on Party I noticed several people multi-tabling and sitting on 3+ buy-in stacks on several of their tables. $3/6 seems like the level where you start running into the multi-tabling professional players.
Preflop: Hero is SB with 5, 5. Hero posts a blind of $2. 1 fold, MP raises to $14, CO calls $14, 1 fold, Hero (poster) raises to $50, 1 fold, MP folds, CO calls $38.

UTG calls $4, MP calls $4, CO calls $4, Hero raises to $25, 2 folds, UTG calls $21, MP folds, CO calls $21.
Flop: ($85) 3, J, 2(3 players)
UTG checks, CO bets $25, Hero raises to $80, UTG folds, CO calls $55.
Turn: ($245) 8(2 players) CO bets $50, Hero calls $373.10 (All-In), CO calls $118.70 (All-In).
River: ($786.80) 5(2 players, 2 all-in)
Final Pot: $786.80
Results in white below:
CO has 6s 6d (one pair, sixes).

Outcome: Hero wins $786.80.
Thank you for your response. My original inquiry has yet to be responded to though. I verified my bank account, yet when I try to withdraw money it states that I will be charged a $10 fee. According to your site though, people with validated bank accounts are allowed free withdrawls. Why am I being charged a fee?
Thank you,
dnuts

Hi dnuts,
Withdrawals are free for participating FirePay users. If you only use your FirePay account to make withdrawals back to your bank account you will not be able to take advantage of free withdrawals. In order to benefit from free withdrawals, you must fund your FirePay account and transfer funds to a merchant’s site.
In order to qualify for free withdrawals with FirePay, you must fund your FirePay account from your Bank Account and make purchases at a merchant site with FirePay on a regular, recurring basis.
If you only use your FirePay account for withdrawals then there will be a $10.00 fee. However, you can always spend your funds at a merchant for free.
Best regards,
FirePay
So as long as a make a deposit into firepay from my bank account, I will be allowed to make withdrawals for free?
Thank you,
dnuts

So I make a deposit from my bank account and transfer those funds to a merchant site and then all subsequent withdrawals are free?
Thank you,

Hi dnuts,
This must be done on a regular basis in order to keep having free withdrawals. Doing this procedure only once will not be enough.
Thank you,
FirePay
Thank you for your reply. If that is the case then I won't be depositing directly from my bank account. On the website it says that withdrawals are free for those with validated bank accounts. This obviously isn't the case. It is misleading for FirePay to suggest that it is.
Hidden fees such as this are one of the many reasons FirePay is, and will continue to be, less popular than Neteller. I will simply make withdrawls to my bank account through Neteller instead of your company. I wish I could do this through FirePay, but since I withdrawal multiple times per week, I cannot justify paying a $10 fee every time.
I routinely make 4 figure deposits to several different merchants as well. FirePay will not receive the majority of that business because whenever possible I will be using Neteller to send money to these merchants instead of FirePay. This greed is going to cost you considerably more potential revenue than you would have made by charging me these fees. Have a nice day.
Well I finally did something constructive with some of the money I've made from poker. This morning I wrote a check for $5,382.75 for my tuition. Of course, it's only 1/4 of what I owe for this semester but it felt pretty good nonetheless. I'll be able to make the next payment and possibly the third but for the remainder and next semester I'll probably have to take out more loans.
I'm also in the process of getting some money moved over to Party and am going to start playing there again. Good ol' Party Poker...

After my session this morning I reached my goal for the month in cash games. My stats for $3/6 and $5/10 are weird because they're from when I was screwing around trying to be a short stack ninja. I found short stacking to actually be pretty fun. Although my sample size is very small, I see how it can definately be profitable if you're playing right.
I've been playing pretty much a TAG game. It seems like a lot of attention has been given to playing LAG lately, but I think I have a respectable winrate playing 18/10. My variance is also pretty low. It's been a long time since I've been down more than 2.5 buy-ins on anyone day.
My goal for July was to make $10,000 and to make $2/4 my regular game. Between cash games and a $20 180 win I'm already almost there. This is essentially a brag post, but I haven't run this well in awhile and feel like sharing.
I've been experimenting with my game a bit and have had some success with the changes I've made. I've generally tightened up pre-flop and become more aggressive post-flop and the way I play draws. I'm also trying to be more flexible in the way I play. I'm making more of an effort to take what a table is giving me instead of playing on auto-pilot. My table selection has also gotten better. I play enough to know who the better players and nits are. Before I'd just sit and play. I'm still playing at a level that has plenty of games available though so there is really no reason for me to sit at a bad table. And well, I've also been getting lucky...

I'm a fan of using the chat to your advantage. Here I was trying to get others to tag along to give myself better odds on making the call myself. A little while ago I also posted a hand from FullTilt against Eric Lindgren where my table talk led to me stacking him. I've found that I can get myself more action at times when I use it appropriately. I figure it's there so you might as well use it.

Had a good session at $400NL so the obvious thing to do was go donk off the profit by playing higher. I tried my best, but my luckbox kept getting in the way.

Occasionally I'll go on FullTilt to watch the pros play. Last night I was watching Juanda, Matusow, D'Agostino, etc. playing 50/100 NL. As I was watching them I scrolled through the lobby to see if anyone else was playing and noticed Erick Lindgren sitting at a 5/10 NL table. They were only playing 4-handed and the other three people obviously bought in short and were total donkeys. I was seriously contemplating sitting in, even though 5/10 is a little out of my BR. The game quickly broke up though and Erick announces that he is going to play 2/4. He sits at an empty table and I sit on his immediate left. The game quickly fills up with a bunch of short stacked donks and I'm lucky enough to get some cards early to bust one of them. Not too much later this hand comes up...

There was some pretty amusing chat that ensued, but I forgot to save it... Basically just me being stupid and talking shit. He seems like a really cool guy. Obviously $400 means nothing to him, but it was cool to sit with a pro and have a story to tell. I sat down with the intention of getting into a hand with him so I could bluff him or whatever just so I could be a dork and say I bluffed Erick Lindgren blah, blah, blah... I don't think I could have planned it much better than this.
