OK, lets chronicle the time that has elapsed since my last post.

1. Month of January: I make 15000 dollars at full ring nl. I'm on top of the world. This is my best month ever by a landslide (my last best month was +8k).

2. Month of February: I drop 5k at ring, various stakes. Like 7-8 buyins at 2/4 fr, 1 buyins at 2/4 6 max, 6 buyins at 1/2 6 max etc etc. Life sucks. Im not playing nearly enough (last month i played 120000 hands, this month ive played like 20k so far).

Ive been getting into tournaments a lot lately, keeping one or two (or 4) running while i play ring. Basically no success whatsoever, dropped like 1k at 10+1,20+2,5rna,10rna, the occasional 33/55.

A few days ago i took down my first one, a 10+1 freeze on FullTiltPoker.net for about 600 dollars. Just prior to that, i went deep in the FTOPS Main Event (playing out of my roll for the win) scoring about 1300 dollars (for a 535 buyin). So im like "awesome, im a winning donkament player now."

Then yesterday.

I woke up at like 4 in the morning, loaded up some donkaments and 4 1/2 6 max tables on stars. Totally destroyed, winning about 700 at 1/2, but busting the donkaments. Felt satisfied, then just kinda chilled for a while and went to sleep in the afternoon.

Woke up at around 8pm, felt frisky, decided to play a couple of big buyin mtts. Signed up for the Nightly Hundred Grand on stars and a 109 on FullTiltPoker.net. The 100k went like complete shit (lost most of my chips flopping top two with AQ and watching the board come with four hearts after 1/2 my stack was in ) and i busted about 90 minutes into it.

By this point the 109 was starting and i realized "shit, this is a 6 maxament, i don't even really know how to go about playing these."

It had an interesting structure, 12 minute blinds (as opposed to the normal 10 min FT structure), and double stacks (3000 chips). This tournament was super deep literally the entire time. The increased number of hands/hour + the deeper stacks + the slower structure made for a tournament that had lots of room for play after the flop.

So for the first couple of hours or so I played it exactly like a cash game, lagged it up, and was chip leader before long. Pretty much kept chip leadership all the way to the final table, then lost half my chips on a flip QQ vs AK and then the rest of my chips with a three outer AK vs AJ to the same guy as the QQ hand. Went out 4th for about 2.5k, my biggest cash ever.

So. Ive had a pretty shitty month, but yesterday was my best day ever $$$ wise (making just over $3000), my bankroll is very respectable again (@ around 16k), and I think I may really get into donkaments on a serious level.

I've been playing a ton lately.

In December, I played 72000 hands in about 2.5 weeks ( was out of town for almost two weeks out of the month). Mostly I was playing 100nl six max, and basically breaking even. During that time I feel like I identified a ton of my leaks, and plugged a few of them.

Still I broke even. Out of frustration, I decided to start playing full ring again last week. I ran pretty well, and had one of my best sessions ever (in terms of buyins), winning about 900 at 100nl full ring on FT. After that, I decided to take a shot with my 6kish roll and play 1/2 full ring on FullTiltPoker.net.

Since then, Ive been 12 tabling 1/2 for about 20k hands, with a really solid winrate of almost 5ptbb/100. My roll is officially 10k again, and im totally high on life right now.

I feel like im running better than average, but I feel also like im playing terrific. I've been releasing top pair and overpairs almost effortlessly, and in the entire span of 20k hands, I can only recall one big mistake i made.

I don't really understand it. When i play six max, I feel like im being outplayed sometimes, and Im always in tough spots. But when I play full ring, all of the decisions seem easy. I guess im just built for full ring.

Now, I am 12-tabling 1/2 FR on FullTiltPoker.net for 4+k hands every day and feeling better than ever. Hopefully, i'll double my roll and be balling it at 2/4 again in no time at all.

I feel like im getting a lot better. I have played a tour de force of hands this past week a la Lukie. I've been 4 to 6 tabling and playing for 10-12 hours each day (about 50k hands in the last 10 days). Im basically breaking even, but im learning a lot. Im doing a TON of experimentation with my game. Im experimenting with different styles: i've played anywhere from 16/12 nit to 26/22 lag, with some fun and enlightening results.

One part of my game that was severely lacking was threebetting. I sucked at picking spots to threebet, and i sucked at dealing with threebets against me.

One thing i read that extremely helped me out was CTS's blog entry on Cardrunners about three and fourbetting. He suggests a style where you threebet decent players with crap hands on a random (and inexcessive) basis, and then manipulate the pot with position after the flop. One problem with my game before was that I was only threebetting people light from the blinds (as a defense mechanism). I found that its clearly better to do it on the button and don't worry so much about having your blinds stolen. TAG's don't like to play reraised pots out of position, so they will often fourbet or fold, which means massive EV for you (unless they start 4betting you light, at which you just shift gears and wait for AA lol).

He also suggests fourbet pushing a wider range against people who overuse the above tactic against you. Basically, if LAG villain three bets you with a wide range X, then you can profitably shove 4bet (assuming 100bb stacks) a fairly wide range Y, which usually consists of QQ+ AK and AXs TT-JJ. The idea is that a suited ace actually plays fairly well against a sane calling range (30% equity vs QQ+ AK), and since they rarely have that range you take down a 14bb pot most of the time, and they can't call you too lightly because you are shoving your monsters too.

I had a fairly successfull 4k hand session last night (6 tabling on stars). What follows is most of the big pots I played.

Ugh. I was yelling obscenities at the monitor when he checked behind and this was the turn. I know I'm supposed to bet the flop, but I knew I was drawing basically dead, or he was drawing to 4-6 outs, was this not a good value check? I was thinking that QQ made up a good portion of his range, and that I would squeeze some more money out of it on the turn. As played, should I just check and give up on the turn?

OK. Another wholly depressing entry into my blog.

Today I dropped 2k at the 2/3 game on Bodog. I got my money in drawing pretty much dead 3 times. I made one really bad call down with second pair X on a YYX flop. I got coolered a couple of times. Long story short, I ran bad AND played bad.

Running bad AND playing bad. This has been a consistant running theme for me, for the past while.

The games aren't good anymore. Wait, that statements a little strong. The post-bill games aren't nearly as good as pre-bill Party Poker. All you needed to beat that game was a pulse.

Now, when I play 1/2 on Stars or FullTiltPoker.net, people are laying down hands. They are laying down BIG HANDS. By a big hand, I mean a pair of aces with AJ. The standards for a winning player have been raised, and apparently, the bar is higher than me right now.

So, here's my solution. First I need to point out the weaknesses in my game. Those weaknesses are as follows:

1. USING STANDARD LINES. The standard lines (like lead/3bet with a set) aren't effectively working anymore. I need to put people on tighter ranges and get more value from those ranges.

2. BLUFFING THE TURN AND RIVER. The decent players are calling me on the flop with hands that can profitably call me down on the turn and river, and there aren't very many floaters at 1/2 and .5/1. The fish obviously will call down anything.

3. PLAYING MY BIG HANDS WAY TOO FAST. This is kinda part of problem 1. I need to start slowplaying more. I almost never do, which means whenever I am playing passively, its easy to put me on nothing. Also, I am always trying to force an all in, whenever I have a big hand, instead of milking my big hands when I know they probably don't have much.

4. MAKING THIN CALLDOWNS WAY TOO MUCH. Im not a calling station. Calling stations constantly make irrational calldowns. I, on the otherhand, make SELECTIVELY irrational calldowns. Basically, i am making a lot of calldowns for my whole stack when they are bluffing there a significant percentage of the time, BUT NOT MORE THAN 50%.


What I am going to do, is as follows:

1. Im going to withdraw my bankroll down to 5k. That will give me enough money to live for a couple of months, while I pull myself out of this shithole unpressured.

2. Im going to move all of my monies to Poker Stars. FullTiltPoker.net's games suck balls. Ultimate Bet's games make FullTiltPoker.net's games look good. Fuck Rakeback. Also playing on different interfaces all of the time isn't any fun, and my lack of adjusting to different environs is negative EV, considering how shattered my game is right now.

3. Im going to play 100nl with 50 buyins. I'm not moving to 200nl again until I have 10k.

4. Im going to play A LOT of hands. Im talking 60-75k a month. If I have a decent winrate at .5/1 (2-3ptbb/100), i'll be back at 1/2 in no time.

5. I am going to post a lot of hands. Seemingly "standard" hands, mostly. Because I obviously haven't the foggiest clue what "standard" is anymore.

Another breakeven month. I would have made meaningful posts in here these past two months, but they would be contrived and largely untrue. When a seemingly winning poker player loses money at poker for 80,000 hands, theres nothing really all that interesting about it. You just suck it up and continue. Whenever, if ever, that I start to run decently again, I'll make more posts in here hopefully.

I am currently just trying to put together a winning game at 200nl 6 max. My continuing to run bad is not helping matters considering I only have a modest edge in the game.

I have been losing lots and lots of money recently. Today hopefully ends that streak of embarrassment.

I totally PWNZORED a Stars 22/180 today. Like, I was second in chips for the majority of the tournament, and then chip leader for the entirety of the final table.

Then after my first tourney win ever (for $1080 i might add) I destroyed some stars 100nl ring for a while.

I just dropped 10 buyins at 2/4 on party.

After my 4k rush at the beginning of this month, I have since given back 2k.

Life sucks. On the bright side, even though I lost two buyins over todays massive 4k hand session, I feel like I played some of the best poker I have ever played.

I haven't run good like this since my rush in April.

Had an extremely volatile session, getting stacked several times, but stacking many more times. I played a generally tight aggressive (16/10) game and the deck hit me in the face. A lot of times i was beat even when I caught the cards though.
